Not included is a GPU. I plan on getting this one, but it's currently sold out. Are there any alternate suggestions, or should I just wait for that one to open up?

Why a quad core rather then a faster dual?

no the i5 is a really solid proc for the price it blows most core 2's out of the water...only the extreme edition $1,000 ones compete.

and yea the build look solid. thats a great graphics card too. but there really is no reason to spend the extra money on win 7 pro. home premium is really fine for almost everyone.

Thanks for the tip, snapple. Switched it to Home Premium, which saves $35, unless anyone has a good reason to go with Pro

I approve of the build, but one question: why a 4890? The 5xxx are out, even though due to supply shortages they're about $20 more than their target price. The 4890 is a fine card, but you also want to consider sticking with your current GPU until Nvidia's Fermi comes out in Q1 2010 and ATI drops their prices to compete.

If I remember correctly you have a 8800gt in your old computer. If I were you I'd use the 8800gt for now and then wait and see what the graphics card market looks like in a month or two.

I guess you could wait a month or two unless you really need the computer *now* (or cannot get it otherwise). The 58xx are not in your budget range I think (300$+? No thank you) but the  57xx series would be a solid choice (the 5770 is about the same price as a 4870/GTX 260 so...)

I would only either get the 4890 or the 5770 if you really want Direct X 11 (seeing that most games don't even use DX10 yet... I don't know about DX 11's adoption rate)

Uh, yeah.  If you have an 8800gt already, I'd hang on to that for a while.  I'm still using the 8800gts and I'm still satisfied (kind of).
